Premier League side Southampton are believed to be closing in on signing Lyon’s defender Dejan Lovren.

Lovren has made strides on improving his game with the French side during the 2012/13 season, making a total 24 appearances for Lyon, scoring a goal and notching one assist along the way.



And it is believed that the Saints are keen on bringing his defensive talent to St Mary’s Stadium with the club’s chairman Nicola Cortese giving the club the green light to sign the defender rated to be worth €10m.

Southampton, however, may face competition with the likes of Everton and Liverpool, both of which have also been credited with an interest with Lovren in recent months.

Lovren, who has 14 caps for Croatia under his belt, has a contract with Lyon ties him with the Ligue 1 club until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
