Roma have all but confirmed the appointment of Ligue 1-winning coach Rudi Garcia as their new manager, according to French daily L’Equipe.

The Lille boss is understood to have signed a one-year-deal with the Serie A side – and has the option of an additional year – to replace Zdenek Zeman who was sacked in February.

Aurelio Andreazzoli had been in interim charge since Zeman’s exit, while Garcia boasts the French double of the title and the cup in 2011 with Lille.

It will provide a healthy boost to the capital club, who finished sixth last season, just outside the European spots, and lost the Coppa Italia final to arch rivals Lazio last month.

Garcia’s move is expected to be formally announced on Thursday, while his annual salary has been reported to be in the region of €1.5m.

The 49-year-old had been at Lille’s helm since 2008 and capped the club’s remarkable season two years ago by winning the coach of the year award in France.

The former Saint-Etienne, Le Mans and Dijon boss had overseen Lille’s first Ligue 1 title since 1954 when they clinched the required points.
