Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has insisted that there have not been any solid moves by any club to sign midfielder Luke Murphy, amid talk of interest from Aston Villa.

Aston Villa snapped up Ashley Westwood from Crewe last summer and have been strongly linked with making a move for Murphy this year.

But Davis has explained he has nothing serious to report on the Murphy front, even though he expects that to change come August.

"There have been just a couple of enquiries but nothing really solid", the Alex boss told the Crewe Chronicle.

"I think it’ll be an August thing like it was with Westy. Something, I’m sure, will happen over the pre-season", he added.

The 22-year-old Crewe captain is expected to be the subject of a number of bids this summer and, although there is a strong chance he will not be at Gresty Road for the new season, Davis has told Murphy to prepare as if he will be.

"I’ve said you need to prepare yourself right through the close season, which he has been, and prepare for League One football which at the moment is where he’s going to be", Davis explained.
