Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley has explained that the Celts have returned after a much-needed break, and are now looking forward to their first qualifier in the Champions League.

The Hoops kick-off their Champions League campaign in July in the second stage of the competition. The 2012/13 SPL winners, along with Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest, comprise the 32 sides that are involved on Monday, when the Champions League draws take place.

The Welsh international has insisted that although the matches will be difficult, Neil Lennon’s men have a lot of time to prepare.

"We didn’t have long but it was nice to have rest but have to get back to work and qualify for Europe”, Ledley said in a press conference, via his club’s feed.

"That’s why we are back early to get ready for the first qualifier. It will be difficult but have long time to prepare.

"It’s massive for players and club and hopefully we can do it again. Best competition in the world and every player wants to play in it.”

Ledley – who has lifted two Scottish Premier League trophies and two Scottish Cups with the club – also hopes that they can emulate their performances of last season, this time as well.

The Hoops achieved a domestic double in the 2012/13 season – clinching the SPL title, as well as the Scottish Cup. They also had a fair run in the Champions League, where they reached the Round of 16 of the competition.

Lennon’s men famously recorded a win against Spanish heavyweights Barcelona in the group stages of the tournament at Celtic Park too.

"We made history last season but we have to start again and hopefully we can kick on again this season”, Ledley continued.

"It’s just about preparing ourselves. That’s what we did last season and we will go there once the [Champions League] draw is made.

"It doesn’t bother us who we get. Just need to wait for draw and go from there."
