Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is keen for his League One side to forge a link with Scottish champions Celtic.

Davis’ men, who have enjoyed two successive seasons of success, with promotion into League One in 2012 and Football League Trophy glory this year, are due to meet Neil Lennon’s Celtic in a behind-closed-doors friendly later this month.

And Crewe boss Davis is keen to explore linking up with the Scottish giants with Lennon, who is a former Alex player, mindful of the benefits that can be enjoyed by taking players on loan.

The idea may be one that Celtic are interested in too, given Crewe’s talent factory, which has produced Manchester United’s Nick Powell and Aston Villa’s Ashley Westwood in recent years.

"We have secured a practice game against Celtic at their training ground and that will be a great day for us and a great experience for the players", Davis told the Crewe Chronicle.

"Neil has done a fantastic job up there.

"They narrowly missed out on a treble and had a great run in the Champions League so it will be a great experience for our players to face players of that calibre.

"It will also be nice to catch up with Neil. He came to a couple of our games last season but I never really had a chance to have a chat with him, so I’m looking forward to that.

"I’ve always tried to forge links with top clubs because they can help us out with loan players.

"The ones we got in from Premier League clubs did really well for us last season."
