Maicon is not considering leaving Manchester City despite a "miserable season", his agent has insisted.

The rampaging Brazilian full-back was brought to the club last summer by Roberto Mancini, who was shown the door at the end of the season and has been replaced by Chilean tactician Manuel Pellegrini.

Maicon managed just nine appearances in the Premier League for the Citizens last season – but he does not want to exit the Etihad Stadium, his representative has insisted.

"He had a miserable season, but that can happen", Roberto Calenda told Radio Sportiva.

"Now he wants to prove his worth in a Manchester City shirt. He is aiming for a spot in the Brazil squad for the World Cup."

And Calenda, when asked about speculated interest from Roma, expressed his opinion that a return to Italy, where Maicon played with Inter, is difficult to imagine.

"Interest from Roma? Italian football is going through a difficult economic period, so it is difficult for players with the salary of Maicon to play there."
