Marseille have rejected a €15m offer from Napoli for defender Nicolas N’Koulou, even as the Cameroon international is fending off interest from Monaco and Arsenal, according to French daily La Provence.

The 23-year-old was also being linked with Liverpool and Newcastle earlier in the summer, especially following a season that saw him turn out 38 times in Ligue 1.

Marseille have always made clear they will not sell the centre-back, and it is proving clear with their rejection of Napoli’s bid.

However, the Ligue 1 giants could be swayed if bigger offers come their way, especially with transfer targets of their own.

Rafael Benitez is understood to be keen on the player, though he himself insisted he is happy with his time at Marseille, with his contract set to expire in 2015.

N’Koulou had joined Marseille from Monaco in 2011 as he graduated to the senior team in the principality in 2008.

He ended up making 87 appearances for Monaco between 2008 and 2011, and the club’s sporting director Vadim Vasilyev had previously revealed they were interested in a return for him.

Marseille, meanwhile, have boosted their forward ranks by signing Lille winger Dimitri Payet, on a reported €10m deal, with confirmation of the capture coming yesterday.
