A day after failing to turn up for training, Junior Malanda is moving towards breaking his contract with Jupiler Pro League side Zulte Waregem amid reports that the midfielder is being sought after in England.

Everton and Fulham have reportedly been eyeing the 18-year-old, who yesterday left the club "surprised" by his decision to skip training and has two more years left on his contract.

The club were forced to issue a statement saying they "regretted the situation", whilst stressing that "Malanda remains welcome and the club will do everything they can to keep him in the team".

And today, club coach Francky Dury revealed he was left even more in shock at Malanda’s actions and desires, especially given that the player had been a huge hit with the fans last season.

"I’m surprised", Dury was quoted by RTBF as saying. "On Monday, we had a discussion with Malanda and his father but that did not yield much."

Malanda won the fans over last season with his 35 league appearances, that helped Zulte Waregem reach the playoffs as they only missed the title by a four-point margin to Anderlecht.

And that gives Dury further cause for disappointment over his young charge, as he added: "I’m lost because I had a good talk with the player and I spent a lot of energy in the mediation process.

"I sense that we are now merely stumbling about in the dark over this situation."
