Chelsea have confirmed that they are to sign Marco van Ginkel from Dutch side Vitesse.

As revealed by Inside Futbol earlier this month, Van Ginkel and his agent had visited Chelsea’s training ground in late May, speaking to Jose Mourinho on the phone, before the Portuguese even officially took over, and agreeing the move.

Finalisation of the deal was put on hold while Van Ginkel competed at the European Under-21 Championship for Holland and then took a short break following its conclusion.

Now Chelsea have officially confirmed the move.

"Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel", the Blues announced.

Van Ginkel is believed to be viewed by Chelsea as a natural successor to Frank Lampard and the club’s good relationship with Vitesse smoothed the deal.
