AS Roma are no more than a bank clearance away from securing the services of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman, according to Dutch daily Eindhovens Dagblad.

Strootman’s imminent move to the Italian capital has been an open secret for some time, even if he was being chased by clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal.

Despite PSV’s best efforts to keep him at the Philips Stadion, Roma are understood to have hacked out a €20m deal for the Holland international.

That transfer is awaiting clearance from the bank at Roma’s end, and only then will PSV allow Strootman to leave the club he joined in 2011.

The Dutch club are reportedly keen on being paid at the first instance of asking, and that constitutes a heavy guarantee from the Italian side.

His contract at PSV was set to run out in 2016, but Roma will be dearly hoping to complete their second foreign signing of the summer.

The Coppa Italia runners-up yesterday beat off competition from Tottenham Hotspur to land 17-year-old Croatian starlet Tin Jedvaj from Dinamo Zagreb.

And Strootman will add some experienced flavour to Roma’s summer arrivals, having already earned 18 senior caps with Holland and nearly 90 appearances each at PSV and Sparta Rotterdam respectively.
