Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has confirmed that the club have rejected an offer from Arsenal for Luis Suarez and added that the Uruguayan has not informed him that he wishes to leave Anfield.

Suarez has been vocal about his desire to quit Liverpool this summer, both before and after the Confederations Cup, in which he was involved.

The former Ajax man at first insisted he wanted to leave England due to what he saw as unfair press treatment.

However, lately he has softened his stance and now takes the view that Liverpool, who have not qualified for any form of European competition next season, cannot match his ambitions.

Arsenal have bid for Suarez, in the hopes of taking him to the Emirates Stadium. And Ayre has confirmed their offer was rejected.

Speaking to Bloomberg, the former Huddersfield Town chairman said: "We had an offer which is fairly public from Arsenal.

"We said no to that offer and as far as we’e concerned he turns up for training when he’s due back."

Ayre also stressed that Suarez has stopped short of telling Liverpool directly that he wants to leave.

"I’ve heard him say it would be great to have an opportunity to play for Arsenal and likewise Real Madrid.

"But he certainly hasn’t called me up and said he wants to leave."
