Liverpool are believed to hold an interest in Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado, who currently plies his trade in Greece with Olympiacos.

According to Portuguese daily Record, the Reds are looking closely at the 27-year-old as a possible summer reinforcement, having been impressed with his debut campaign at the Greek champions.

Machado featured in 28 Greek Super League games last season as Olympiacos coasted to the title, booking a spot in this season’s Champions League in the process.

The FC Porto youth product also helped Olympiacos to collect the Greek Cup to complete a domestic double.

A central midfielder, Machado joined Olympiacos from French Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse last season, with the Greek outfit paying a fee of €2.7m to sign him to a four-year contract.

Right-footed and able at a push to operate on either flank, Machado has won international recognition with Portugal.

He has won five caps for Portugal’s senior team, having also appeared for the country at Under-20, Under-21 and Under-23 level.

Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, snapping up goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, defender Kolo Toure, winger-cum-forward Luis Alberto and striker Iago Aspas.
