Real Madrid are looking seriously at the possibility of moving for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez if there is no breakthrough in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale by 20th August.

Los Blancos have been negotiating to buy Bale from Spurs, but negotiations have reached an impasse, with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy demanding a higher price, €120m, than Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is prepared to pay.

The Spanish giants want to wrap up the signing by 20th August, but are, according to Catalan daily Sport, prepared to switch their attention to Suarez if Spurs do not budge.

Suarez is desperate to leave Liverpool and would jump at the chance to join Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan would also be a substantially cheaper option than Bale, with a bid of €45m likely to find favour at Anfield, where Suarez has fallen out with the Merseyside club and been forced to train alone.

Selling Suarez to Real Madrid would allow Liverpool to offload the striker, while also denying domestic rivals Arsenal the opportunity of pouncing.

However, Bale remains Los Blancos' first choice for now, with Suarez only a backup option should there appear to be no breakthrough on the horizon for the Wales international.
