Schalke and Hamburg played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Veltins Arena in the Bundesliga yesterday.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put the hosts 1-0 up in the second minute, but his compatriot Rafael van der Vaart equalised for Hamburg from the penalty spot in the 12th minute.

Maximilian Beister’s header made it 2-1 for the Imtech Arena outfit in the 21st minute, however Huntelaar bagged his brace just before the break from a headed effort of his own to level proceedings.

Hamburg again took the lead after half-time as Lasse Sobiech headed in a corner in the 49th minute.

Debutant Adam Szalai then made it 3-3 with less than 20 minutes remaining as the forward fully capitalised on a Rene Adler mistake to secure a point for his side.

Elsewhere, Mainz edged past Stuttgart 3-2 at the Coface Arena.

Nicolai Muller netted twice for Mainz with Shinji Okazaki being the other scorer, while Vedad Ibisevic and Martin Harnik were on the scoresheet for the visitors.
