Liverpool defender Martin Kelly has heaped praise on his team-mate Fabio Borini, following the Italian’s impressive display in the Reds’ Under-21 Premier League win over Manchester United.

The 22-year-old bagged a brace in the 4-2 win over the Red Devils on Monday, which included a superb goal from a free-kick.

And Kelly feels that Borini is reaping the benefits of working hard in pre-season and wants his team-mate to build on Monday’s impressive outing.

"Fabio worked his socks off in pre-season and he got his rewards”, Kelly explained to his club’s official site.

"It has maybe not gone his way in pre-season when he's had the chance but all he can do is crack on.

"You are only as good as your last game and I thought he was superb.”

Borini has failed to make a mark at Liverpool since joining the club from Italian side Roma last summer.

He managed to score just twice in 20 appearances for the Reds in the 2012/13 campaign.

Injuries have also hampered his progress; Borini is contracted with the Merseyside club until 2017.

The striker, who counts Chelsea and Swansea City amongst his former clubs, has a single senior cap for Italy to his name.
