Christian Eriksen has revealed that he can understand why Ajax were criticised under Martin Jol and he appreciates the brand of football preached by Frank de Boer much more.

Jol bossed Ajax between 2009 and 2010, the same time-frame which saw Eriksen learning his trade at the Dutch giants.

Jol, who is now in charge of Fulham, was roundly criticised during the latter part of his time at the Amsterdam ArenA, with his brand of football not proving a hit with the club faithful.

He was succeeded by De Boer, who has led Ajax to three consecutive Eredivisie titles and seen praise lavished on him for the style of football now employed by the side.

And that is something Eriksen well appreciates, with the Dane feeling the plan was often nothing more than a 'give the ball to Luis Suarez' approach.

"Ajax now play football that is much more focused on suiting the culture of the club than was the case a few years ago", he told Voetbal International.

"Under Martin Jol we were accused of not playing Ajax type football.

"I can understand the criticism.

"The midfield was often skipped, there were primarily long balls up to Suarez and then it was hoped he would do something spectacular."

For Eriksen, the football played under De Boer is more to his liking.

"The current style of play suits me much better", he said.

"I have the ball more and can better utilise my qualities."
