Ajax are looking into a possible loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel after losing Christian Eriksen to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eriksen flew to London yesterday to put the finishing touches to his switch to the White Hart Lane outfit, with Ajax poised to pocket a basic €12m for the Danish playmaker, with a potential further €1.5m to come in bonus payments.

Ajax have been vocal over their displeasure at losing Eriksen, with director of football Marc Overmars commenting: "If the transfer goes through then we are not happy."

Now Frank de Boer's men are looking to fill the void that will be left by Eriksen's departure and their gaze has been cast towards Chelsea.

According to Dutch outlet NOS, Ajax want Van Ginkel to land on a season-long loan.

Ajax had tried to buy the midfielder from Vitesse earlier this summer, before being beaten by Chelsea to his signature.

It remains doubtful whether Chelsea will agree to loan Van Ginkel, but the player does want regular first team football in a World Cup year, while his agent revealed recently that signing for Ajax was actually his client's preferred option.
