Gareth Barry believes that Everton could make his temporary switch permanent after the end of the current campaign if he can put in some impressive displays for the club in addition to steering clear of injuries.

The midfielder, who joined up with the Toffees on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, is keen to impress his new employers in lieu of making his move from Manchester to Merseyside permanent.

“Obviously that [making my move permanent] will happen if I can produce good performances this season, stay fit and put a good run of games together”, he explained to the club’s official site.

“That is all down to me impressing the club, so I don’t see why that can’t happen.”

Everton manager Roberto Martinez also feels that the 32-year-old may have a long-term future at Goodison Park and has also lauded the player’s experience and quality.

The boss said: “What we want is to find a way where Gareth can come and be a part of Everton and enjoy his football, and we can all enjoy his experience and his quality.

“After that, we will see if there is an opportunity to see him for many, many years to come – because I do believe Gareth has got a long-term future at the club.”

Barry joined Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2009 and made 132 Premier League appearances for the Citizens, netting six times.

The midfielder, whose contract with the Etihad Stadium outfit will expire after the 2013/14 campaign, has 53 senior caps for England to his name.
