Emmanuel Adebayor could become a Tottenham Hotspur outcast after manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed the striker will be training with the development team.

Adebayor is currently back in Togo on extended compassionate leave following his brother's death.

He is understood to be returning to White Hart Lane next week, but will not be part of Villas-Boas' first-team plans going forward in the new season.

Spurs have invested heavily in attacking options this summer, and Adebayor may have been deemed surplus to requirements.

"Up to when I find it appropriate, he will train with the development team", Villas-Boas told a press conference relayed by the BBC.

"At the moment Ade is not with us, because we have granted him authorisation to stay up until Monday in his country for personal reasons, so he's not going to be involved against Norwich."

Adebayor's summer was not without transfer speculation, with clubs such as Schalke and Besiktas, being linked.

He has, however, stated on a previous occasion that he had no intention of leaving Tottenham.

"I decided with my manager before the start of the transfer window that I would not leave", Adebayor had said. "I never thought of a departure from Spurs."
