Everton manager Roberto Martinez has heaped praise on Romelu Lukaku’s brilliance following the striker’s impressive display in his club’s 3-2 triumph over Newcastle United last night.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Toffees on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, netted a first-half brace at Goodison Park, with Ross Barkley scoring the other as Everton moved up to fourth in the Premier League.

The Belgian international also scored the winner in Everton’s last league game against West Ham United as he continued his superb form from last season, when he bagged 17 Premier League goals for West Bromwich Albion.

And Martinez lauded Lukaku’s all-round game last night and stated that he wants the youngster to develop himself further.

"[Romelu’s] a young man that has everything as a striker. Sometimes you see a number nine that is powerful and has great physical presence”, the manager explained to his club’s official site.

“I think what Romelu also brings is a great technical awareness of what's around him.

"He's really gifted in holding up play with his back to goal. He's a great goalscorer and the reception that he had at Goodison made him a player that looked at home.

"I want him to enjoy his football, to develop and to become as good as he can be."
