Ron Vlaar hopes that Aston Villa churning out positive results will keep team-mate Jores Okore’s spirits up.

The Denmark international, who joined the Villains from FC Nordsjaelland during the summer transfer window, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during his side’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United in mid-September and is expected to be sidelined for as long as nine months due to the injury.

And Vlaar acknowledged that the injury was a big blow for Okore, who he thinks was doing well before damaging his ligament.

However, the Netherlands international is confident that the 21-year-old will come back stronger and until then wants to make the youngster feel better through Villa’s good performances.

"It was really bad news for Jores. He now has an anterior cruciate ligament injury. He was doing really good”, Vlaar told his club’s official site.

"Hopefully some good results for us will make him feel better.

"It will get his spirits up for his comeback ahead. He will come back strong, I'm sure.

"We all want to help him with that."

Aston Villa, who won their last two Premier League games against Norwich City and Manchester City respectively, are currently ninth in the league standings with nine points from six fixtures.
