Former Chelsea striker Gianluca Vialli has revealed that he has heard Tottenham Hotspur are beavering away behind the scenes to sign playmaker Andrea Pirlo for next season.

Pirlo currently turns out for Italian champions Juventus, but his contract in Turin expires at the end of the campaign.

While the Bianconeri have struck a positive note over keeping the Italy international, the club's director general Giuseppe Marotta has put talks on a new deal on hold until February.

And that would open up a window of opportunity for another club to sign Pirlo to a pre-contractual agreement in January.

Spurs may be an option, with Vialli telling Sky Italia following last night's Juventus vs AC Milan match that he has heard transfer talk.

"I heard the rumours from London", he said.

"There are contacts between Andrea Pirlo and Tottenham for next season."

Vialli is no stranger to English football, having spent time as a player at Chelsea before taking charge at Stamford Bridge. He then had his last managerial post at Watford.
