Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Benito Carbone could become the Owls' white knight after meeting with club officials during last weekend.

Carbone has been in talks with Wednesday's leadership, according to Sky Italia, and was even paraded during half-time of the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.

Wednesday are currently in dire straits in the Championship, lying 22nd with no wins so far.

The performances have called boss Dave Jones' stint into question, but no definite plans for a change in management have yet been tipped.

Italy Under-20 international Carbone spent nearly three years at Wednesday, during which he became a fan favourite alongside Paolo Di Canio.

Carbone's long career on the pitch also saw him play with Aston Villa, Bradford City, Derby County and Middlesbrough.

He had a spell with Inter Milan as well, under then manager Roy Hodgson, whilst he played for Ron Atkinson, David Pleat and Danny Wilson during his time with the Owls.

The 42-year-old began his managerial career at AC Pavia in 2011, before moving to AS Varese and finally Valle d'Aosta Calcio, whom he left in April of this year.
