Romelu Lukaku does not harbour any ill-will towards Jose Mourinho for deeming him surplus to requirements, but hopes to outscore Chelsea's strikers to prove the Portuguese wrong.

Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, was again forced to look for temporary options after Chelsea brought in fresh attacking talent in the summer.

Mourinho revealed last month he had no problems letting Lukaku leave after signing Samuel Eto'o, but maintained the Belgian still had a future at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Lukaku has become a fan favourite at Goodison Park since his deadline-day transfer, with four goals in five league games.

When Mourinho's words were relayed yet again to Lukaku, the forward today told Het Nieuwsblad: "What should I say? Everyone has their own opinion. I can only prove the opposite.

"The coach decides and, as a player, you have to respect that. I then decided to leave and it's up to me to prove the coach wrong.

"The only thing I can do is play well and score a lot. And I think people will say that I'm a good player.

"Hopefully I can finish by scoring more goals than the Chelsea strikers. With Everton, we will see at the end of the season who made the best choice.

"Mourinho is a good coach. I think he makes his choices in good faith. I do that too and the performances that I deliver at Everton are proof of that."
