Everton loanee Gareth Barry insists he will not take his England exclusion lying down, even if the Toffees remain his "main target" for now.

Barry was overlooked by national boss Roy Hodgson for the last two World Cup qualifiers, and remains in wait for his first cap since May 2012.

Barry's last appearance came away against Norway in a friendly that England won 1-0, while his last international goal came in 2011 in a similar scoreline against Sweden.

A lack of game time at parent club Manchester City was hindering his national chances, and a switch to Everton could well do the trick for Barry.

When asked about an England recall, Barry told his club website: "It’s something that I definitely wouldn’t be turning down at the moment.

"I joined Everton to play regular football and that’s still my main target, to get my form going. If an England call comes with that, then fantastic. But it’s certainly at the back of my mind.

"I’ve always said that I want to play a long as possible and as long as my body and legs allows me to do so”, added Barry.

"At the moment I’m feeling good and really fit, and I’m hopeful I can play for a number of years.

"But I’ve always taken it one season at a time and this season I’m looking at keeping a good run of form going and helping Everton climb the table to see where it gets us."

Barry has made four appearances for Everton since his move in the transfer window, including the League Cup defeat to Fulham.
