Javier Hernandez is relishing battling for a regular starting spot at Manchester United, feeling that to compete with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie is a form of success in itself.

The Mexican is starting a new chapter under new Manchester United manager David Moyes and attempting to make his own case to be a regular starter at Old Trafford, despite fierce competition for a spot.

And rather than growing impatient at the competition, it is for the time being spurring Hernandez on to raise his game further.

He explained to Telemundo: "There is no better competition in the world than to fight every day against Rooney and Van Persie. Competition internally has always been healthy.

"The fact that there are so many quality players and they all want to earn a spot on the team forces everyone to raise their level to help the team both individually and collectively."

Hernandez did hint though that his future could be away from Manchester United if he does not break through from the bench eventually.

"I work to be a starter and I know that with my day job and off the pitch, one day the opportunity will come, whether here or at any other club.

"I just need somebody to give me more opportunities and to be able to have continuity from game to game."
