Schalke look set to be handed a boost with news that Kevin-Prince Boateng could be fit to face Chelsea in the Champions League on 22nd October.

The Ghana star picked up an injury in Schalke's 4-1 win over Augsburg last weekend and it was feared he would need to undergo specialist knee treatment, which would have ruled him out of the clash against Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

But the former AC Milan man is being treated in Munich by former Borussia Dortmund physio Ralph Frank, who feels he can stop the pain in the player's knee and prevent an operation being needed.

And while the match against Eintracht Braunschweig next weekend looks like coming too soon for Boateng, the Chelsea game is very much on his radar.

Schalke sporting director Horst Held told German daily Bild: "There have been significant positive effects.

"Everyone is confident that the treatment is going to be effective."

Schalke signed Boateng in the summer from AC Milan and the 26-year-old has quickly become a key man at the club.
