Former Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer is leaving his post as sports manager of the Czech Republic national team.

Smicer had taken the post the day after he retired from professional football in 2009, ending his career back in his homeland with Slavia Prague.

The Czech is best known for his spell at Liverpool between 1999 and 2005, which he capped off by helping the club to win the Champions League.

He then had a two-year stop at Bordeaux before returning to the Czech Republic in 2007.
