Promising Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot has declared himself unwilling to make the same mistakes as former team-mate Mamadou Sakho, insisting he will put aside his boyhood club in search of regular first team football very quickly if required.

Sakho, a PSG youth product and firm fan favourite at the Parc des Princes, saw himself gradually sidelined at the club last term, as then-coach Carlo Ancelotti regularly preferred other centre-back options.

This season his situation became worse under Laurent Blanc, relegated to fourth choice centre-back, something which eventually forced Sakho to leave, the defender joining Liverpool last month.

Rabiot, who has been tipped for big things, is not prepared to tread the same path and will exit PSG sooner than Sakho was prepared to if all does not go according to plan.

The 18-year-old, who has started just once in Ligue 1 for PSG this season, though he has featured off the bench six times, told Le Parisien: "The label 'formed at PSG' exists. I know it's important to the supporters and the leaders, but it's not enough.

"If this is to be set aside on the day when other players are recruited then it isn't worth it.

"I don't want to live the way Mamadou Sakho did. After a while, when he realised he would not play much, he took the decision to leave and he did well."

Rabiot is not likely to be short of suitors if he does decide to call time on his spell at the Parc des Princes. One side sure to be interested in his words are Tottenham Hotspur, who have been keeping close tabs on the midfielder.
