Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels that Sir Alex Ferguson's continued presence at Manchester United can only be a "positive influence" on the club.

Ferguson called time on a hugely successful 26-year career at Old Trafford at the end of last season, moving upstairs to take on the position of director at the club.

He was succeeded by David Moyes in the dugout, who has had a less than perfect start to life as Manchester United manager.

It has been suggested that Ferguson looking on from the stands might not be beneficial for Moyes or the club, but Wenger does not see it like that.

"No [it doesn’t affect them], you do not want his personality to be a handicap for the club, you want him to be remembered as someone who has done extremely well for the club", Wenger explained via his club's official site.

"It is rather to be a positive influence on Manchester United", he added.

Wenger is making hay over Manchester United in Ferguson's absence, having already established an eight-point lead over last year's champions, despite just eight games being played in the Premier League so far.
