Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has insisted the ball for his future next season remains firmly in Chelsea's court.

Courtois is in his third consecutive season-long loan with Atletico Madrid from Chelsea. It remains to be seen how much longer he can continue at the Vicente Calderon on a temporary basis.

 







The Belgium number 1 has explained he is not prepared to return to Chelsea to play understudy to Petr Cech and he has firmly impressed in La Liga.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has even been spoken of as a possible successor to Victor Valdes at Barcelona.

But what the future holds, Courtois cannot yet say.

"This year I was pleased to stay at Atletico Madrid, but for next season it all depends on Chelsea", he told Spanish daily AS.

"We have to wait until next summer; to stay at Atletico was also important in view of the World Cup in Brazil.

"Last summer I had a meeting with Jose Mourinho, we decided together that I should stay in La Liga.
