Brazilian legend Romario has pointed the finger at national team head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, insisting the Selecao boss be held accountable for Diego Costa's allegiance switch to Spain.

Costa, who holds dual citizenship, recently relinquished his Brazilian allegiance in order to play for Spain at international level. The striker already has two caps for Brazil to his name.

And while La Roja boss Vicente del Bosque relishes the opportunity to work with Costa, World Cup winner Romario has slammed Scolari's lack of action to ensure Costa's stay with the Selecao.

"As the coach of the Brazilian team, Scolari has to give an answer to the Brazilian people about why [Costa’s] selection was neglected in this case", Romario told Radio Estadao.

"Brazil should pay attention to their players, particularly those who have the talent to form a good team", he further explained.

Costa has not played for any Brazilian club side since his professional football career began in 2006. He started with Portuguese side Braga before moving to Atletico Madrid the year after and has been contracted to Los Rojiblancos since.
