Manchester United coach Chris Woods is of the opinion that David de Gea possesses the qualities to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The Spaniard, who joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011, has been in superb form for his side this season.

De Gea was on the receiving end of criticism during his initial time at Old Trafford due to poor performances and mistakes.

But the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength and has managed to become a vital member of the present Manchester United crop.

And Woods is hugely impressed with De Gea, especially with the custodian’s consistently good displays between the sticks.

“David has got everything that you need to be the best and he has just got to keep doing what he is doing at the moment”, he told United Review.

“It is about achieving a level of consistency, which he is now doing but I don’t want to tempt fate.

"He has everything needed to be up there with the best.”

De Gea, whose contract with Manchester United runs until 2016, has made 94 appearances in all competitions for the club.

He is yet to earn a senior cap for Spain but has represented the nation at various youth levels.
