Liverpool talisman Luis Suarez has denied that Uruguay team-mate Edinson Cavani asked him to move to Paris Saint-Germain so the pair could join forces at club level.

Suarez was desperate to quit Liverpool during the summer for a club playing regular Champions League football and set his sights on Arsenal.

PSG were also mooted as potential contenders for his signature and the French champions would have had little trouble dispensing the fee needed to sign the Liverpool man.

Indeed, PSG paid €64.5m to sign Cavani from Napoli in the summer.

But the Uruguayan did not seek to work his charm on his countryman.

Asked by RMC whether Cavani asked him to join PSG, Suarez said: "No. He said he is happy in Paris, he is happy with the big club he has discovered, his team-mates and the way football is in France.

"He asked me a lot about it because it is very different from what I know in England."

Suarez also denied any knowledge of interest from Real Madrid in buying him in January.

"There are always rumours", he said.

"Sometimes too many. If I had to play at all the clubs the press have said I'm going to I would have gone crazy. I stay away from all that."
