Pepe Reina has explained he feels proud to play for Napoli, while insisting his switch to the club from Liverpool was an "unexpected transfer".

The Spaniard is on a season-long loan at Napoli from Liverpool, who moved to replace him by snapping up Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

He has so far helped Napoli to keep pace in the Serie A title race, with Rafael Benitez's men sitting second with 28 points from eleven games.

And Reina is enjoying life in southern Italy.

He told Cadena Cope: "I was at Liverpool for a long time, but now I am happy to be at Napoli.

"It was an unexpected transfer; I am very proud to be here and I have the mind to do well."

It remains to be seen whether Reina will return to Liverpool when his loan expires, with links around a move to boyhood club Barcelona never far away for the Spaniard.
