Newcastle United will have renewed hope of snapping up Luuk de Jong after PSV Eindhoven declared they have not made any enquiries for the Dutchman.

Borussia Monchengladbach has not been a happy hunting ground for De Jong this season, as he is yet to start a game.

PSV, meanwhile, are facing a minor injury crisis with Jurgen Locadia and Tim Matavz on the sidelines, prompting talk of a loan move for De Jong in the winter.

They would have faced competition from Newcastle – who had attempted a move in the summer of 2012 – and Eredivisie rivals FC Twente, but have now declared themselves out of the running.

PSV technical director Marcel Brands was quoted by Voetbal International as saying: "Matavz, according to the doctor will play again after the winter and Locadia is fit.

"PSV have not enquired about Luuk de Jong."

De Jong clocked 31 games for Gladbach last season with eight goals, but has become out-of-favour for coach Lucien Favre.
