Liverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger has praised the club's local rivals Everton and explained he expects a tough Merseyside derby this coming weekend.

The Reds travel to Goodison Park to take on an Everton side under a new manager in Roberto Martinez, a man who came close to taking the Liverpool job ahead of Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2012.

Everton are playing possession-focused passing football in the Martinez-style and Agger is expecting a real fight in the Premier League clash.

"It's about three points and they are the ones for us hopefully", Agger told Danish outlet Bold.

"It is always tough and intense fighting. But that's that.

"They've had a really good start. There is a new manager and a slightly different style of play.

"They have a solid team and they have had that for many years, but they are off to a good start."

Everton currently sit sixth in the Premier League standings with 20 points from eleven games, while Liverpool are second on 23 points from the same number of matches.
