Arsene Wenger has played down speculation that legend Thierry Henry could take a coaching role at Arsenal.

The veteran striker has been training with the club, along with fellow former Arsenal player Robert Pires, with Wenger having opened the doors of the training ground for the pair to use as they bid to keep fit and sharp.

Speculation has been rife that Henry, who turns out for MLS side New York Red Bulls, may join Wenger's coaching staff.

But the French tactician has played that down.

"No [he hasn’t been offered a coaching role], at the moment he is invited just to practise when he wants", Wenger told a press conference via his club's site.

"We have a big staff, a very competent one, and we have the right number to support the team to achieve the targets.

"Thierry is a player, one day certainly it will be different, but at the moment no."
