Out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne appears to be edging ever closer towards Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

De Bruyne has slipped well down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and now regularly fails to make the cut when manager Jose Mourinho selects his matchday squad.

The Belgian midfielder is concerned about a lack of playing time given the World Cup is on the horizon and has been advised to move by none other than Chelsea and international team-mate Eden Hazard, while Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has also made his feelings known.

De Bruyne's agent Patrick De Koster was quoted by Spanish daily AS as saying: "At this moment, everything is open. We've still got to meet Chelsea."

And with De Koster being located in the Spanish capital recently, Atletico Madrid are firm favourites to take De Bruyne to the Vicente Calderon.

The Belgian is also wanted by a whole host of German clubs, but linking up with countrymen Thibaut Courtois and Toby Alderweireld in Spain is an attractive option.

It remains to be seen whether any De Bruyne move will be in the form of a loan or a permanent transfer.
