Arsenal and Manchester United are heading for a transfer collision in the upcoming January window over talented Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

Manchester United originally set their sights on Carvalho in October, but Sporting Lisbon made noises over keeping the 21-year-old at the club in the face of suitors sniffing around.

But keeping Carvalho could be easier said than done with Europe's elite clubs starting to pay serious attention to the midfielder.

Indeed, according to Portuguese daily A Bola, Arsenal have joined Manchester United in admiration of the midfield prospect.

Carvalho has impressed with Sporting Lisbon this term and played a key role in the side's revival following last term's poor campaign.

The Angola-born schemer, who has clocked up eleven Primeira Liga appearances so far, is locked down on a contract with the Portuguese giants until 2018.

Sporting Lisbon currently top the Primeira Liga with 26 points from their eleven matches.
