Southampton's Pablo Osvaldo and Cagliari's Mauricio Pinilla could come under the Inter Milan spotlight this winter after new president Erick Thohir revealed he was looking for a striker.

Thohir's takeover has been dominated with issues around Inter's transfer dealings, especially with the club aiming to make Champions League places as a minimum result.

Osvaldo is one of the bigger names floating around, though it is not clear whether Southampton are willing to sell in the winter window.

Regardless, Thohir, who watched Inter only able to draw in his first San Siro game, was quoted by Sky Italia as saying: "I spoke with [coach Walter] Mazzarri and [technical director Marco] Branca.

"The coach asked me to purchase a striker. Inter have only four and two are currently injured.

"[Rodrigo] Palacio is playing practically forever and to have depth we had to move Fredy Guarin. I hope in this sense that Ishak Belfodil, who has an extraordinary future ahead, will grow further.

"We will not buy players just for the sake of where they come from or on loan but those who this team really needs and those who fall under the requirements of the coach.

"It is impossible to buy so many players and then maybe not play them because there are other players of superior quality."
