PSV Eindhoven have made a formal enquiry about the availability of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong.

The Dutchman has fallen out of favour at Borussia-Park this season and is seeing his hopes of making the Holland squad for next summer's World Cup suffer as a result.

Gladbach have sent out mixed signals on De Jong, with club director Hans Meyer hinting at loaning the 23-year-old out in January, while sporting director Max Eberl ruled out such an option.

FC Twente, Newcastle and PSV Eindhoven are all mooted as being interested in De Jong.

And according to Voetbal International, PSV have now been in touch with Gladbach to formally enquire about De Jong's availability.

The Dutch giants may find the player less than responsive to their overtures even if Gladbach are however, with De Jong having gone on record as explaining he would view a return to the Eredivise (he left Twente to sign for Gladbach) as a backwards step.
