Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has restated the club's interest in Chelsea attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgium international is at the centre of a transfer storm with a number of clubs keen to take him off Chelsea's hands next month.

De Bruyne has slipped to fringe status at Stamford Bridge; a real worry for the midfielder in a World Cup year.

He has no shortage of fans in Germany, following a successful year-long loan stint at Werder Bremen last term.

And Leverkusen, who wanted De Bruyne including in the deal which took Andre Schurrle to Chelsea in the summer, retain their interest in the attack-minded midfielder.

"We have never made any secret of our interest in the player", Voller told Sky Deutschland, when asked about De Bruyne.

"But we know that there are many clubs interested in him.

"Notwithstanding our position in the Bundesliga, we always try to improve with players and if it is possible we will do something in the winter."

Leverkusen currently sit second in the Bundesliga standings, seven points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Voller's side went down to a surprise 1-0 loss at home against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
