Inter icon Javier Zanetti has admitted he would love to be able to welcome countryman Lionel Messi to the Nerazzurri, but does not realistically believe that will happen.

The legendary Inter player is firm fan of Messi and classes him as "the best"; little surprise then that Zanetti would be delighted if the forward were lining up alongside him at the 2010 Champions League winners.

Zanetti told Leo Mundo: "It would be ideal to have him here as a team-mate at Inter.

"But I know he is happy at Barca and in everything he does he never ceases to amaze.

"We always expect great things from him when he is on the pitch because he is the best."

Zanetti joined Inter in 1995 and is currently still plying his trade for the Serie A giants despite being 40 years old.

He has collected five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italias, four Italian Super Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup at the Nerazzurri.
