Manchester United manager David Moyes is quietly confident on Wayne Rooney making Saturday's Premier League fixture despite missing yesterday's League Cup win.

A groin injury ruled Rooney out of the Manchester United team that beat Stoke City 2-0 in the League Cup quarter-final.

There were some fears that the forward would be out for more games in the busy festive period, but Moyes has played them down.

The Reds take on West Ham this weekend, and Moyes told the club website: "He has got a chance [to play], yes."

The news will be a relief for Manchester United, who are already without Robin van Persie until the new year.

The Dutchman picked up a thigh injury in the Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month.

Manchester United will face back-to-back away games after their home clash against West Ham, as they travel to Hull City and Norwich City in the final two games of 2013.
