Giuseppe Rossi will be under specialist care after Fiorentina confirmed the striker had suffered yet another ligament injury in his right knee.

Rossi underwent scans this morning to establish the extent of the damage he suffered from a heavy challenge by Livorno defender Leandro Rinaudo yesterday.

The forward had previously undergone two major surgeries for a similar issue on the same knee and is due to see the same surgeon who operated on him.

Rossi had been in superb form for Fiorentina this season with 14 league goals in 18 games and the setback has prompted outrage for Rinaudo from La Viola chiefs.

A statement on Fiorentina's website today read: "Giuseppe Rossi underwent an orthopaedic examination and diagnostic tests this morning that confirmed a sprain in the right knee, which had previously undergone surgical reconstruction for an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

"Currently there is second-degree damage to the medial collateral ligament of the same limb.

"In order to evaluate the extent of the damage and make a prognosis, he will be examined in the coming days by a specialist."

Rossi's previous experience with knee trouble had seen him miss out on nearly two years of football, while he was substituted deep into the second half of yesterday's win over Livorno.
