Benfica midfielder Filip Djuric has warned the club not to sell midfielder Nemanja Matic, who is at the centre of much transfer speculation.

Djuric rates his countryman highly and feels that were Benfica to cash in on Matic then the team as a whole would suffer.

Matic has been linked with Liverpool, while his former club Chelsea have also been credited with an interest, and Manchester United are firm fans of the Serbia international.

But no matter who comes calling, Djuric wants the Lisbon giants to resist selling Matic and ensure he stays at the Estadio da Luz.

"Matic had a great [last] season at Benfica and has maintained the level this year", Djuric said via Record.

"He is crucial for the team.

"He has quality, pace and is already used to the club.

"It would not be good for Benfica if he leaves the team now."

Matic has clocked up 13 appearances in the Portuguese Primeira Liga so far this season, while he also played in all the club's six Champions League group stage games.
