Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has conceded that Theo Walcott's season-ending injury means he must step up his plans in the current transfer window.

Walcott has been ruled out for six months, further weakening Wenger's attacking options at a time when Nicklas Bendtner is also sidelined for at least the next three weeks.

Now the Frenchman may be forced to splash the cash to ensure Arsenal's Premier League title push stays on the rails.

Wenger told his club's official site: "[Walcott’s injury] has accelerated speculation first and of course my desire as well – but let's not forget about Serge Gnabry who can play in the first team.

"We have [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain back and we have many other players who can play on the flanks so to find better solutions than what we have internally will not be easy.

"Up front we lose Theo as a potential central forward and that's maybe where we have to look outside. But we hopefully have Bendtner back in three weeks.

"We are there for the opportunities but it's very difficult at the moment."

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League table and are next in action on Monday evening against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
