Napoli should not give up hope on landing Maxime Gonalons after his agent declared Lyon's president would eventually come round to the idea.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas this week revealed he had rejected a €17m offer from Napoli for Gonalons. The offer had, in fact, been raised from an initial valuation of €13m.

The Lyon captain is well aware of Napoli's interest, and a move was likely, though Aulas expects Gonalons to see out the 2013/14 season before considering his future.

While Arsenal are also interested in Gonalons – indeed, have been from last summer itself – Napoli are clear favourites, despite Aulas' reluctance at selling a high-value player.

Gonalons' agent Frederic Guerra told French radio RTL: "The Lyon president often changes his mind. We want the switch to Napoli.

"All is okay with Napoli with regards to the wage conditions.

"[Gonalons wants] a team that will supposedly play in the Champions League next year, while Lyon will not make it."

Gonalons has been at Lyon – currently 10th in the Ligue 1 table – since July 2009 and is officially contracted until 2016.
