Napoli have made their winter intentions clear by submitting a €9m bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Etienne Capoue just four months after his move to England.

Capoue, contracted at Spurs until 2017, had switched from boyhood club Toulouse only last summer for a reported fee of €12m.

However, injury and a dip in form has left him with just eight Premier League appearances prompting Napoli to move quickly.

According to Sky Italia, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already submitted the offer, which has bonuses added on.

In addition, Napoli have already initiated contact with Capoue's agent Mino Raiola over the transfer.

Napoli had been keen to land Maxime Gonalons from Lyon, but their €17m bid for the Frenchman was rejected.

And they have therefore moved for Capoue, who had been a target for Cardiff City and Atletico Madrid last summer.

It is not yet clear if Spurs boss Tim Sherwood will allow Capoue to swap clubs so quickly, though he has played just five games since recovering from injury in early December.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is very keen to bolster his midfield this winter, despite a summer spending spree last year, and names such as Jorginho and Yann M'Vila are also on his list.
